This morning I went back to the beginning. I went back to how I started. I went back to how I started this whole journey of prayer time with the Lord. See when I first started praying every day during last year’s one hour prayer challenge, I never took my phone into the prayer closet. I would play a worship song before I went into the prayer closet, so as not to take my phone in there. Over the last year, that changed and I started taking my phone in the prayer closet and when the Holy Spirit said yesterday to. “protect my ears and our time,” I knew that I had to relinquish the phone and even my Apple Watch. Why? Because they were starting to distract me. I had to go back to the beginning.
What’s interesting is that I had been longing for the feeling of how I started. It was soooo sacred and uninterrupted. It was pure. It was me starting with humbleness and expectation. It wasn’t even a routine yet, so I couldn’t get stuck in a rut. But as my prayer life has become a lifestyle, I noticed the subtle distractions. I noticed that I wasn’t keeping my time with Holy Spirit protected. But all of that changed TODAY! I went back to the beginning. Back to no music, only my singing voice. I realized that while I have been progressing and growing, there are somethings that I will always need to keep basic. That’s being intentional about my space and time with Holy Spirit.
And I have to tell y’all that it felt so good this morning! I was like…oh, now I see Lord. I would be playing music on YouTube and then an ad would start playing or even the song would stop and ask me if I was still listening. Just slight distractions. I didn’t even realize how they were interrupting the flow. There’s nothing wrong with music playing in your prayer closet, it just can’t be your phone. It has to be uninterrupted music. YouTube music is fine for praise and worship songs, but just ensure that it is uninterrupted. But today, I took the route of going back to the beginning where I do praise and worship before I go into the prayer closet and then sing the rest of the way.
I was laughing with Holy Spirit and thanking Him for bringing all those old songs I used to sing as a child back to my remembrance. I didn’t even know what those songs meant back then, but now I just break out into song and it’s usually a relevant song. I know that’s Holy Spirit.
So what did me and Holy Spirit have a conversation about today? He said:
Take care of your body and exercise more.
Stay focused on your assignments.
Rejoice in all things because I am with you in all things.
AGAIN, don’t be distracted. Keep your eyes on Me (I circled the word AGAIN because clearly the Holy Spirit was reminding me for 100th time in the last 24 hours). LOL!
Stay organized and keep a schedule that is flexible for Me.
I always know what to do, so ask me FIRST and read My Word FIRST!
Everybody won’t be FOR you. There are specific people to whom you are assigned to and you’ll know who they are because I will always tell you. And even if you make a misstep in who the people are, trust Me to show you what to do and how to get back on track.
I am proud of your obedience in making our time sacred again.
Without the distractions of the phone, the communication was even more clear this morning. I am so thankful to Holy Spirit for directing me and guiding me. And it comforts me to know that even if I make a misstep, He is right there to hold my hand and guide me back on the right path. And He will do the exact same for you.
