Be A Faithful Helping Hand Fon Strong James

Today I want to leap straight into the Word because in reading Acts, chapter 3, the Holy Spirit was giving me so much and I want to ensure I share it ALL, but first let me say this: God has all the answers, just ask Him what you should do before you ask anyone else. He will tell you.

Okay, so this morning, I got up ready. I had done some spiritual warfare praying last night and interceding at the request of a friend and I woke up READY to go! You ever go to bed laughing at the enemy because he is such a loser? I did last night. But don’t you know that these conversations me and the Holy Spirit have, actually prepare me for things to come, a lot of times. Of course I don’t know this when I am writing down what I hear the Holy Spirit say, but I will find myself recalling what He told me at the very time I need it most.

Let’s move on to Acts, chapter 3, our Scriptural Bible Study for today!!

As I was reading, the Holy Spirit was highlighting so much to me and I began writing things down from the Word of God in a conversational tone. So Acts 3 talks about the healing of a lame man. Now I looked up lame in the King James Version Dictionary (on my phone y’all), and as I was looking at all the definitions, what stood out to me was the synonym weak. When I read this story before or heard this story before, I always visualized a lame man as having a deformity in the leg because it says he would be placed at the temple gate each day to beg. But what I realized when I bring this story into context today, it can simply be a person who is weak and can’t help themself. It can be a person who is a bit unsteady. It can also be a person who is trying to operate life with a bit of an imperfection.

The first thing I wrote down in my notes was Acts 3:6, but before we get there, let me just say that the lame man was at the gate and when Peter and John entered the gate to the temple, on their way to afternoon prayer. The lame man asked them for some money. Peter said look mane, I don’t have any money, but.

And it’s the second “BUT” in the verse that stood out and made me write it down.

“But what I do have…”

That’s what I wrote down: “But what I do have…” I may not have what want, but what I do have…”

That stood out to me and as I kept reading this is what Holy Spirit revealed to me from this story:

  • Be ready to help the person get up from the lame place and walk.

  • Take them by their hand and raise them up in faith, and then I will supernaturally strengthen to to stand up on their own!

  • Then they will jump up and start to walk on their own and praise Me.

  • Other people will recognize the former person (who you used to be) as whatever you used to do (i.e. lie, cheat, curse, drink, smoke, etc.) and they will be filled with awe and astonished at your complete transformation.

  • By having faith in MY NAME (the name of Jesus), you will suddenly (at once) see change. Faith in Me (Jesus) has given you a new life in front of everyone.

  • When you help others, always speak up and let people know it’s not you, but Me, Jesus.

  • Repent and turn back when you recognize what you may have done in ignorance. (Acts 3:19)

Now of course y’all know I read the study notes and Dr. Tony Evans made some great points about Acts 3. He said we must both speak hope into a broken life AND extend practical help. Note that Peter took initiative and raised the lame man up.

Also the lame man just wanted money. That’s it. But when God meets your needs, He may not give you what you ask for, but what He provides will always be greater than what you want. See we need spiritual people in our lives who will help us get to God. And when we accept their spiritual help, our external need (our lameness, our weakness) is addressed at the same time. We be thinking we need money or whatever we “think” we need, but it’s deeper than that. It’s way more spiritual than that surface thing. When we focus on the spiritual, our circumstances are transformed! And when that transformation happens, our response to God’s work should be visible and vocal. It should lead you to greater public praise and worship. Er’body should hear you shouting the name of Jesus.

Our transformation is not for us y’all. It’s for a greater benefit. My transformation that started 17 months ago, wasn’t just for me. It was to lead others to salvation. This blog and podcast is to lead others to God because when God does something amazing in my life (like He continues to do daily), He had a greater purpose in mind. He wants to do something even more amazing THROUGH me. That’s why it is so key that I surrender daily to be used by Him.

Peter exercised faith when he told the lame man to walk. The lame man responded in faith. We are called to help our weaker brothers and sisters, and we must walk in faith so that they too can stand in faith!

Are you willing to help others in the name of Jesus? Are you willing to attach your faith to another person who may be weaker than you are, so that God can show himself strong and mighty in that person?

P.S. Be sure to press play above & listen to each episode as I always go deeper on the audio version.
