In obedience, the On Assignment By God Blog, now has an audio feature where you can listen to this blog!! Thank you for your prayers as I continue to be obedient and do what God says! Happy Listening!!
Coming off of that celebratory day yesterday has been nothing short of amazing! I cried quite a bit yesterday and even took a nap because I was soooo drained from all the fanfare. I give God all the praise because I know that without Him, I wouldn’t even have had the 365 days to pray! Now that’s putting life into perspective!
This morning as I was praying, I started thinking about money. I recently ended some year-long contract work with a non-profit and have been in this space of knowing what to do; knowing how to do; but ironically, stalling out or hesitating in actually doing it.
I feel the need to be totally transparent with you (well I am actually pretty transparent all the time…lol), but this morning I was thinking about my taxes. As a contractor, I was invoicing my clients and they were paying me in full, with no taxes removed. Of course, I have learned that paying quarterly taxes is the way to go, so that you don’t have a big tax bill at the end of the year, but I was saving over this time so that will help. But again, I was thinking about the money that I will owe come tax deadline. It was at that moment during my prayer time that Holy Spirit reminded me AGAIN (yes again, because this is NOT the first time he has brought this story to my remembrance) about the story in Matthew 17:24-27 EASY
24 Jesus and his followers went to Capernaum. There the men who collect the two-drachma Temple tax came to Peter and asked, “Does your teacher pay the Temple tax?”
25 Peter answered, “Yes, he does.”
Peter went into the house where Jesus was. Before Peter could speak, Jesus said to him, “The kings on the earth get different kinds of taxes from people. But who are those who pay the taxes? Are they the king’s children? Or do other people pay the taxes? What do you think?”
26 Peter answered, “The other people pay the taxes.”
Jesus said, “Then the children of the king don’t have to pay taxes. 27 But we don’t want to upset these tax collectors. So do this: Go to the lake and fish. After you catch the first fish, open its mouth. Inside its mouth you will find a four-drachma coin. Take that coin and give it to the tax collectors. That will pay the tax for you and me.”
Here’s what the Holy Spirit said to me this morning:
It only takes one fish.
The first fish.
One testimony.
One Yes.
One Yes to Me.
When you give me your first, I’ll make it where you get it on the first try. It won’t take several tries. It won’t take several things, it will be the first thing.
It will be in the first thing I said.
The coin will be in the 1st fish.
Then I heard the Holy Spirit ask me: What’s the first thing I said?
I didn’t even have to ponder His question long. I knew the answer. My coin can be found in my gift; in my vocation; in the thing I know how to do. And you’re reading and listening (audio listeners) to it right now. It’s writing what God wants me to write about. It’s sharing His word with you!!!
When I look at that story, I can see that Jesus used Peter’s vocation as the vehicle for a step of faith. He instructed Peter to do what Peter KNEW to do, and that was FISH. That was Peter’s vocation. He was a fisherman. And Peter had already seen what Jesus could do because He had already experienced a big catch miracle! He went to the lake and fished in faith!! WOW! Now that’s a Word right there! FISHING IN FAITH! Are you fishing in faith? Am I fishing in faith? Or to make it relevant to my vocation…am I writing in faith? Am I expecting that my writing will produce enough coins to pay my taxes?
And notice this too what Jesus said, “Then the children of the king don’t have to pay taxes. But we don’t want to upset these tax collectors. Y’all if Jesus don’t want to upset the IRS, then I shole don’t! LOL!!! But peep what the Holy Spirit put in my heart about taxes. He said, that’s why the work you are doing for me will come through a 501c3!! I am about to shout up in this place right now!!!! See, the Lord told me to start a non-profit and I am just going to keep it all the way real. I questioned it. I said, Lord you already know I am more of a FOR PROFIT kinda girl. His reply was for me to do my research to see the profitability of non-profits! Can you say mind blown! And P.S. I believe the Word of the Lord…
And then as I write this blog, I feel it so strong in my spirit that God is saying…it will only take one fish, one writing, one testimony. When you give me your first: your first time of the day; your first tithe from the money; your first fruit! Whatever I bless you with, if you will turn around and give me mine first, then I will give you yours on the first go!!! I am standing in faith and believing that my first writing for funding for my non-profit is going to be like Peter in the story…it will have a coin in it’s mouth. The Word of the Lord says: After you catch the first fish, open its mouth. Inside its mouth you will find a four-drachma coin. Take that coin and give it to the tax collectors. That will pay the tax for you and me. Come on Holy Spirit! It won’t be just enough to pay for one person, it will be enough to pay for YOU AND FOR ME!!!!
Y’all I got to go. The Holy Spirit got me soooooo fired up right now! I got to give Him praise!! Thank you Jesus! Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah!!!
