MY CONVERSATIONS WITH GOD

Welcome to the OABG Daily Blog and Podcast!
This morning the Holy Spirit reminded me not to be distracted by man…any man. He said, focus on my voice and drown out any other voice with worship and praise.
As I read Acts Chapter 20, where I learned that Luke is the author of Acts. There were several things that stood out to me. Paul was an encourager. Paul knew His purpose. Paul was led by the Holy Spirit. Paul raised a young man named Eutychus from the dead. No one could ever blame Paul for failing to talk about Jesus. Paul worked with his own hands to support himself. And Paul was well-loved by the people of Ephesus.
Paul was ON ASSIGNMENT BY GOD! Paul pursued God and the plans God had for him. He did what God put him on earth to do. Paul testified about repentance toward God and faith in our Lord Jesus. Just as a reminder, in case this is your first read of the blog or first listen of the podcast: Repentance is an internal decision and determination to turn from sin. To have faith in Jesus is to trust in Christ alone for the gift of eternal life.
I mentioned in one of the podcast episodes last week about my taking a discernment class. I have a hunger and desire to learn more about hearing from God. I hear from Him now, but I want to learn more about it. As we see here in Acts 20, verse 22, it says Paul was COMPELLED by the Spirit.
And now I am on my way to Jerusalem, compelled by the Spirit, not knowing what I will encounter there, except that in every town the Holy Spirit warns me that chains and afflictions are waiting for me. But I consider my life of no value to myself; my purpose is to finish my course and the ministry I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of God’s grace. Acts 20:22-24 CSB
Being compelled by the Spirit is that feeling of God having a vice grip on your soul, confirming his purpose for you and urging you in a particular direction.
These verses along with Acts 20:35 which says it is more blessed to give than to receive, really help us understand how we are to be as we live our lives here on earth as believers in Christ. We are to be led by the Spirit. We are to live on purpose for God. We are to testify about God’s grace. And we are to give more than we receive.
One of the study note points in my Tony Evans Study Bible broke down Acts 20:35 like this and I want to share it with you because it made me pay some real attention:
It is more blessed to give than to receive because in God’s economy you will be more blessed if you are a spiritual conduit rather than a spiritual cul-de-sac. God wants to work through you so that you will be a blessing to others. If you have the capacity to address a need (with your money, your time, or your encouragement), be used by God to give to and meet that need. God will return the favor.
Luke 6:38 says Give and it will be given to you; a good measure — pressed down, shaken together, and running over — will be poured into your lap. For with the measure YOU USE, it will be measured back to you.
I pray you are encouraged this morning and will live purposefully for God! I mean, that’s the whole point of your existence.
