Don't Let Sin Disconnect You from God Fon

Have you ever been talking to someone on your phone while driving? Hopefully you were doing it safely with headphones or using your car’s bluetooth feature. But while driving, you get disconnected from them. If it’s a familiar path, you already know where the disconnect spots are and you simply call them back after you pass through what many of us call the “dead zone” or the “dead spot.”

We say stuff like, “oh you must have gone through a dead spot or something?” And the other person says, “Yeah, my phone always disconnects when I go through that part of the road.” Or if it’s a new road you have never traveled before, you both learn about the “dead zone.”

So why I am bringing this up or what does this have to do with my conversation with Holy Spirit this morning? We can be fully connected to God on this journey called life and then find ourselves in some “dead spots” along the way. Those dead spots are sin. You can be doing so good and then that old familiar spirit comes back and you find yourself caught up in the dead spot for too long. Then when you leave, you never reconnect back to God!!

You ever been talking to someone and their phone drops and they never call you back? You sit there wondering what happened and why they didn’t just dial you back. Sometimes it could be they reached their destination and moved on. It could be they were done talking to you, even though the call abruptly ended. It could be they got so caught up in the next thing, that they forgot. All excuses might I add.

As I read Hebrews, chapter 3 this morning for the Scriptural Bible Study, several things stood out to me, but verses 12-14 really resonated with me. The Message translation really broke it down as well:

So watch your step, friends. Make sure there’s no evil unbelief lying around that will trip you up and throw you off course, diverting you from the living God. For as long as it’s still God’s Today, keep each other on your toes so sin doesn’t slow down your reflexes. If we can only keep our grip on the sure thing we started out with, we’re in this with Christ for the long haul. Hebrews 3:12-14 MSG

We are to encourage each other. We are not to be rebellious or stubborn. We are to obey God. We are to not let unbelief harden our hearts or take root in our hearts.

So how do we keep our hearts from hardening? We need regular exposure to God’s Word and the spiritual encouragement of God’s people. This is the only thing to keep our hearts soft.

The Holy Spirit said to me, don’t miss out on all I have for you because of rebellion.

And we can define rebellion as disobedience. Don’t be disobedient to God. Don’t act like you don’t hear His voice when you’re taking part of things you know are not of him.

Did you know that God didn’t save us just so we could go to heaven? He saved us to partner with Him in His Kingdom on earth - to share in a heavenly calling - to be His companion in the messianic kingdom that is to come.

Yes you are saved. But he didn’t just save you for heaven. There is kingdom work here on earth that we are called to do.

We often times say we want to do life God’s way. I know I say that every day. I’m like Lord, I just want to do it your way, not my way. Well the Israelites, God’s chosen people, made Him angry because they were rebellious. They refused to listen to God and enter the promised land of Canaan because they feared the inhabitants. God was angry because they didn’t obey or know his ways.

Here is something else I learned while studying God’s word early this morning. The Bible teach that God’s ways with his people include three stages:

  1. Deliverance - God setting you free from bondage of sin.

  2. Development - God brings you into a deeper relationship with Him. (this is the stage where the Israelites failed because they wouldn’t trust God to provide for them).

  3. Destiny - This is where God wants you to wind up.

So we can’t go from being delivered straight to destiny. But that’s the shortcut many of us want to take. We want to skip the development stage because that’s where the trials and the tests of life come. See we can be saved, but refuse to develop! With no development, we miss out on our own inheritance - the spiritual blessings that God has for us here on earth and in eternity!

We must help each other and encourage each other, so that we can avoid the deception of sin. We must call each other back until we reconnect on the phone of life. We must not let a dead spot of sin disconnect us from the fellowship of God. We must hold tight to our faith and never let go!

Hello?

Hello?

You still there?

Let us be the kind of friends and loved ones who will keep calling until we get them to pick up. Let us be the kind of Christians who will help each other persevere until the end of the call, no matter how many times we get disconnected!

As the old folks sang…Jesus is on the mainline, tell him what you want. Call him up and tell him what you want. His line is never busy, tell him what you want.

I would update the song and say: His line never drops a call. Tell him what you want. His line never has a dead spot. Tell Him what you want. Ohhhhhh! LOL!

SALVATION PRAYER

If you don’t know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior and you’re not a believer, but you have a desire to be, all you have to do is openly confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead (Romans 10:9). When you pray that prayer, you are saved. Get connected with a good, bible-based church in your community, stay connected to other believers, and start having daily conversations through prayer with God every single day. Welcome to your new life with Jesus Christ!!!
