Don't Neglect Your Spiritual Life...Make it Top Priority! Fon

Welcome to December! The last month of this epic year of reset and change. I kicked off the month with a commitment to focus on God even more and I pray that you make the same decision. Now is not the time to neglect your spiritual life or coax into the new year. Now is not the time to hurry 2020 along because the God we serve can do more than you can ask or think in these next 31 days!

I shutter at the thought when people say or post stuff like “just throw the whole 2020 away.” Naw, I don’t agree with that notion at all. It has been a very different year, and even a difficult year for some, BUT GOD! Nothing hasn’t happened this year that God hasn’t allowed and if you’re upset because He allowed it, then talk to Him about it verses talking to other people who feel the same way.

This morning the Holy Spirit told me this: “Everything you encounter, I have already overcome.”

As I read the 2nd chapter of Hebrews for our Scriptural Bible Study, that was more evident. We have encountered more deaths this year, but Jesus already conquered death, hell, and the grave! So we don’t have to even let the news (which I highly advise you stop watching) make us fearful of death. It’s a trick of the enemy.

In Hebrews 2:14-15, we see that Jesus conquered death to free people from the fear of death.

14 Because God’s children are human beings—made of flesh and blood—the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could he die, and only by dying could he break the power of the devil, who had the power of death. 15 Only in this way could he set free all who have lived their lives as slaves to the fear of dying. Hebrews 2:14-15 NLT

But I love how Dr. Tony Evans breaks these two verses down in the study notes. He said Satan is the father of lies and he will try to trick us. But we must remember that the devil no longer has the power of death because Jesus conquered death. Satan will try to deceive you with a gun that has no bullets. Jesus Christ emptied its chamber into himself. So all Satan can do is deceive you into thinking the gun still has ammunition. But the fear of death should no longer make you a slave.

The Son of God, Jesus Christ, became man and won victory over Satan and sin, through His obedience, sacrificial death, and resurrection.

When we became Christians, we entered the family of God. He adopted us and we became brother or sister to Jesus. Now, he’s working to sanctify us so that He is not ashamed to call us His brother or sister.

16 We also know that the Son did not come to help angels; he came to help the descendants of Abraham.17 Therefore, it was necessary for him to be made in every respect like us, his brothers and sisters, so that he could be our merciful and faithful High Priest before God. Then he could offer a sacrifice that would take away the sins of the people. 18 Since he himself has gone through suffering and testing, he is able to help us when we are being tested. Hebrews 2:16-18 NLT

It was necessary for Jesus to be made in every respect like us. God created us (humans) after Satan rebelled and He made us humans constitutionally inferior beings so that He could show what He could do with less when less was totally dependent on Him. Hebrews 2:7 says God made man lower than the angels for a short time, but crowned him with glory and honor and subjected EVERYTHING under his feet. And it was necessary for Jesus to temporary become lower than the angels to realign heaven and earth. He came down to taste death for everyone and was crowned with glory and honor. And Jesus came down as a man to taste death for everyone and won the victory over Satan.

Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is a merciful and faithful high priest. He can deliver us from our sin and enable us to overcome our circumstances! Which is exactly what He said to me this morning. He has already overcome everything I will encounter in this world. So I don’t have to be afraid of anything.

As we rejoice and praise God for this new month, remember to not neglect your spiritual life. Now is the time to make your spiritual life a Top Priority! Now is not the time to retreat and coax into 2021. Now is the time to really deepen your relationship with Jesus in this last month of 2020 knowing that no matter what the future holds, Jesus holds the future!

SALVATION PRAYER

If you don’t know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior and you’re not a believer, but you have a desire to be, all you have to do is openly confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead (Romans 10:9). When you pray that prayer, you are saved. Get connected with a good, bible-based church in your community, stay connected to other believers, and start having daily conversations through prayer with God every single day. Welcome to your new life with Jesus Christ!!!
