Eleven Ways to Be Wise Fon Strong James

Welcome to the OABG Daily Blog and Podcast!

When prayer becomes your lifestyle, you enjoy waking up to spend time with the Lord. You take delight in Him and He takes delight in you! Sounds like a perfect relationship doesn’t it?

This morning as I was immersed in the Lord’s presence in my prayer closet, I heard Him say:

  • Remove old approaches to new things.

  • Let me guide your steps.

  • Un-chartered territory requires My Voice to move forward.

Of course I wrote down what He said and realized that when we become new creatures in Christ, old things are passed away. That what 2 Corinthians 5:17 CEV says: Anyone who belongs to Christ is a new person. The past is forgotten, and everything is new. The Amplified Translation breaks down what it means to belong to Christ? It means joined to Him by faith in Him as Savior. A new creature means reborn and renewed by the Holy Spirit. Our previous moral and spiritual condition has passed away. A new spiritual awakening has brought new life.

The Holy Spirit was telling me this morning that it’s time for me to remove old approaches to new things. I can’t be bringing that old mindset, that old strategy, that old tactic into my new life. He said let Him guide my steps and that I need His voice for the new un-chartered territory. He is taking me to some new places and I can’t bring my old self or my old stuff with me! All I need is Him to move forward in my new life. Listening to His voice!

And speaking of His voice, y’all know we are in the middle of reading the book of Proverbs for our Scriptural Bible Study and today we are on Chapter 11 (hopefully you read chapter 10 yesterday while we paused on Sunday), but today I want to share the 11 things that stood out to me from reading this chapter. I will admit, reading Proverbs definitely elevates your level of wisdom, but it also lets you know what God doesn’t like either. Let’s see:

  • The Lord hates dishonesty in the marketplace. When I read this in the Passion Translation, I got even more insight. It says: To set high standards for someone else, and then not live up to them yourself, is something that God truly hates. The Amplified Version says: A false balance and dishonest business practices are extremely offensive to the Lord, but an accurate scale is His delight.

  • With humility comes wisdom. Arrogance leads to disgrace.

  • Don’t gossip. Be trustworthy. If someone trusts you with something, don’t go running your mouth telling other people their business. Gossip about the Gospel if you want to run and tell people anything! That last part I added but you get the point.

  • Without guidance, a people will fall, but with many counselors, there is deliverance. What I noticed here is that it says “a people” will fall. That’s a whole bunch of folks, not just a few people. That’s like a large group. That could be a whole nation!

  • Don’t put up security or make agreements with strangers. That means get to know folks and ask God before you make any agreements.

  • Wicked people earn empty wages, but the one who sows righteousness a true reward.

  • Genuine righteousness leads to life. Pursuing evil leads to death.

  • Those with twisted minds are detestable to the Lord. Those with blameless conduct ARE HIS DELIGHT!. The Good News Translations says it like this: The Lord hates evil-minded people, but loves those who do right.

  • Give freely and gain more. Withhold what is right, and you become poor. (hashtag bars)

  • Don’t hoard your stuff. Sell it and you will be blessed.

  • Godly people get what they should get on earth. So ungodly people and sinners will certainly get what they should get!

  • Nothing is more attractive than a wise woman who makes God’s agenda her own.

Now who’s wiser after studying the 11th chapter of Proverbs? We are! Be encouraged today to be on the right side of these words of wisdom. This chapter gives many examples and results for either living righteously or wickedly. And we choose today to live righteously and be wise!
