Give it up!

Those are the three words that I heard the Holy Spirit say this morning during prayer time. GIVE IT UP! As I kept praying, I envisioned myself with my hands raised in a surrendered posture. To be honest, the scene played out like a scene from a movie and Jesus was the good guy saying, give it up. But what was it? I kept praying and grabbed my journal. As the thoughts were coming so fast, I scribbled down:

I give up:

  • my plans.

  • my timing.

  • my preferences.

  • my way.

  • anything that’s not like you Lord.

I was surrendering to Jesus and willing to give it all up to go with Him. Then I had this thought:

God will take you into custody when you surrender.

Think about that. When you put your hands up and give up your old life, your old habits, your old way of thinking, your old way of decision-making, your stuff that you know ain’t of God, and even those behaviors that can be considered borderline where one foot is in the world and the other one is in the church. You know the ones I am talking about, right? The ones where you say stuff like, God knows my heart. One time won’t hurt. It’s just a little white lie. It ain’t that big of a deal. It’s not THAT serious. I’m gonna do right tomorrow. God is still yet working on me. All the excuses for why you can just GIVE IT UP completely!

The Holy Spirit said it this morning and I heard it just as clear: Don’t resist, surrender to Me.

In this same conversation, the Holy Spirit said, Fon, lives are being changed. Do your best. It’s not about you, it’s about Me.

Then I heard: Performance Review. I started thinking back to my corporate days where we would have employee evaluations. Back then, they never would give you the highest level of performance because it had not been budgeted that way. They only budgeted for a certain amount of people to get increases at different levels. It was already predetermined! So you go in there with hopes of getting a 4, and they knew last year when they created the budget, that only one person would get a 4 and the rest would get 3s, which ultimately meant less money.

But I am so glad that I am working for the Lord. Today, I turned to Ephesians 1-2 in the Scriptural Surprise and and the verse that matches right along with what I heard from the Holy Spirit was Ephesians 2:10:

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good work, which God prepared ahead of time for us to do. Ephesians 2:10 CSB

When God created us, He created us for HIS WORK. He prepared our work ahead of time for us to do. That means what we are supposed to be doing for Him, what is already WITHIN us. We are crafted for our callings and wired for our works. In the Tony Evans Study Bible Study notes for this verses, I love how Dr. Evans says:

A good work is a divinely prescribed action that benefits others in such a way that God is glorified. Many Christians are unfulfilled and miserable because they’ve never gotten around to doing the WORKS God has for them. Tony Evans Study Notes for Ephesians 2:10

The Holy Spirit reminded me that it’s not about ME (Fon), it’s all about HIM, my God! Dr. Evans said God not only saved me for His Glory, but he also saved me for my usefulness on my way there!! That’s a shout right there! Getting saved is just part of it yall. He has work for you to do! He has assignments for you to do.

The Holy Spirit told me this morning that He is sending me income attached to a new assignment and that I will recognize it being from Him by its fruitfulness. He said for me to remember that He has prepared me for it!

He also said this and it may seem random, but I know it matters: Some people will leave your life, but I am sending others who are going in the same direction as you!

I always try to sum up my Conversation With God in this last paragraph; to put it all together for myself and for you. Give up and surrender your whole life to God. Give God your best performance while being useful with the work that He has assigned you to do. Income will be attached to the new assignment and you will know it’s from God because it will be mega fruitful. Remember it’s not about you, but about God. And He is sending new people in your life who are trending in the same direction as you. When you surrender, you are in full custody of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!
