God's Power on Display!
This morning’s time with the Lord was a bit different and I loved it. Sometimes the Holy Spirit will break up the monotony of our routines so that we can see Him in a different way. I love when He does that. I believed He wired me to embrace and adapt to change very easily. I’d like to say I am typically quite okay with being flexible. LOL!
As I prayed and then flipped open my Bible randomly for the Scriptural Surprise. The Lord met me right at my expectation. Let me say parenthetically that every time I expect a Word from God, He gives it to me! I had been praying and interceding since yesterday when I friend of mine alerted me that their friend was in need of prayer as it related to healing.
Guess where I opened up my Bible this morning? Guess? Oh come on…play along and guess? Here’s a hint. It has to do with healing. LOL!
Okay, I’ll tell you since you don’t feel like playing along this morning or you’re thinking, there is healing ALL over the Bible. EXACTLY! But the specific book of the Bible that I flipped to this morning was John chapter 9! This chapter talks about Jesus healing a man who had been born blind. Definitely go and read the chapter and keep on reading through to chapter 11 where it talks about Lazarus being raised from the dead too.
My faith was built up even more this morning as I read the Word of God. I was reading and even found myself laughing too because for some reason when I read about how the blind man’s parents responded to the questioning of their son’s healing, I got too tickled at my translation of how they responded. They basically said, we don’t know. Go ask him. He is of age. Why did that tickled me so much? Because it most certainly sounded like something my parentals would say. We don’t know why that child is saying she is a vegan now. Go ask her! LOL LOL! Oh that’s right? I didn’t tell yall that I have been eating vegan since May 24th! LOL! It just happened yall. I didn’t even plan it but I started trying some vegan dishes after I watched a documentary on Netflix and let’s just say, I haven’t had a desire for meat.
Okay but back to the book of John. There were several things the Holy Spirit brought to my attention during my Bible Study time. Let me try to articulate them with a little help from my Tony Evans Study Notes:
Sickness, disease, and birth defects are not necessarily the result of personal sin. Sometimes God allows negative things in our lives so that His power can be on full display! He wants to put His power on display. He wants positive outcomes that will bring benefit to us and to others. He wants to grow our faith. He wants to show us WHO He is.
We all need God to heal us from something because none of us are perfect.
You can be a Christian who walks with the Lord, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get sick. Lazarus was like a bestie to Jesus and he got sick and even died. But his sickness was not a punishment or a sign of rebellion or anything. It was all for a spiritual purpose.
Sometimes we can be confident and faithful one day and then doubtful the next day, but that’s okay IF and make sure you hear the IF, we take our doubts to God in prayer and believe that He can deal with your doubt and help you with that unbelief. Mark 9:24 says, “I do believe; help my unbelief!”
Don’t lose hope. Even though Lazarus had died. The delay of Jesus’s arrival was intentional. But don’t confuse a delay with a denial. We have to trust God even in the delay and know that He is setting us up to put His power on display!! In Luke 11:22, Martha was frustrated because Jesus didn’t come BEFORE Lazarus died, but Jesus knew that coming AFTER Lazarus had died would DISPLAY His power. We won’t understand God’s ways, God’s timing, or his purposes for how he orchestrates things, but we can TRUST HIM because He cannot lie when he makes a promise. Numbers 23:19 says this!
Bottomline: Don’t limit God. He can heal things you were born with or things that have been plaguing you for a long time, maybe even your entire life. God wants to use THAT VERY THING to put His power on display!
