How to Overcome Mind Battles

Welcome to the OABG Daily Blog and Daily Podcast!
This morning was quite different for me. I woke up to my alarm at 4:30 a.m. I got up, and then had this internal battle of deciding if I was up too early. See, I am leading the 1 Hour Prayer Challenge Life Group again for the fall 2020 semester and today is Day 1. We are using a new app for the challenge and the perfectionist in me and that part of me that wants to make sure I get it right and lead people down the straight path, led by the Holy Spirit verses my “I already lead this group before so why I am tripping” self were going at it. I was like, I could sleep for a few more minutes. It’s the beginning of the challenge. Am I going to post everyday like I did last time? Nah, this new app is different so you won’t have to post? Wait, but the posts are like the little alarm of encouragement for the group.
Y’all I kept this going for a little while. I realized too that I have been doing this little song and dance a lot lately. I resolved it by getting on my knees, eventually. But the battle of the mind went on a little bit longer than it should have. As I was praying the scripture for the 1 Hour Prayer Challenge, which is Jude 1:20, which says:
But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith. Let the Holy Spirit guide and help you when you pray. Jude 1:20 NIRV
I then flipped open my Bible because I had not heard yet what our new Scriptural Bible Study book would be. So I just prayed that the Lord show me what book to study. I flipped it open to Deuteronomy 29. I already had verse 26 highlighted from a previous time apparently. But I kept reading and it was in verse 29 that I heard from the Holy Spirit:
The hidden things belong to the Lord our God, but the revealed things belong to us and our children forever, so that we may follow all the words of this law. Deuteronomy 29:29 CSB
God was saying that everything I need to know and everything my children need to know, has been revealed in His Word. God’s Holy Word contains all that we need in order to understand, trust, and obey Him.
See all that back and forth, and hemming and hawing (who came up with that term) I was doing this morning is easily settled with the Word of God. I don’t need to have any mind battles because we have the victory in Jesus. I don’t need to get caught up perfection or be confused on what to do. His word has REVEALED everything I need in order to understand Him, trust Him, and obey Him. And that’s it. Anything else is just a distraction that is trying to trip me up and throw me off.
Today, as I head to “tutor” my homeschool class for community day, kick off another 1 Hour Prayer Challenge, write this blog, and record this podcast, God has revealed everything to me in His Word to succeed. I just need to seek Him first and not even let the mind battle have a chance to get started. Just jump up and go straight to the prayer closet to pray, read the Word of God, write down what He says do, and trust Him in everything! You be encouraged to do the same.
P.S. Yes we will be studying the book of Deuteronomy for the Scriptural Bible Study. I have also decided to supplement my study time of this book with a Bible Plan from the Youversion Bible app. I felt led to do that, so instead of asking why, I will proceed trusting God that He will show me exactly what I need to see.

SALVATION PRAYER
If you’re not a believer and have a desire to be, openly confess and declare with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead (Romans 10:9). When you pray that prayer out loud, you are saved. Get connected with a good, bible-based church in your community and start having a conversation through prayer with God every day. And let me be the first to welcome you to your new life with Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. YAAAAY!!!!! You made the best decision you could ever make! Feel free to email me at info@onassignmentbyGod.com and let me know about your newfound life or if you need prayer for anything.
