Let God Renew Your Mind! Fon Strong James

In obedience, the On Assignment By God Blog, now has an audio feature where you can listen to this blog!! Thank you for your prayers as I continue to be obedient and do what God says! Happy Listening!!

This morning I got up a little bit before 3 a.m. Of course, I thought it was because I needed to use the restroom, but as I was about to head back to my bed, the Holy Spirit redirected me right into the prayer closet. There were some things on my heart and I went in and prayed about them in the Spirit. At that hour, I knew that only praying about what was on my heart would have been an incomplete prayer. There are things going on that I have no insight about that requires my prayers, so praying in the spirit ensures that I hit it all.

Still feeling a bit under the weather with sinus, I pushed through the itchy gums, watery eyes, and congestion. And I know, you’re probably like, didn’t you pray about being healed or didn’t you take something? I definitely prayed about my healing and I know that I am healed. I don’t allow what I see or feel to deter me. That’s a message for someone this morning. Don’t let your symptoms confuse you on what God already said!!! Amen!

So I prayed twice this morning! Of course I considered letting the 3 a.m. prayer count for my prayer time today, but I see prayer time now as me and God time. It’s not something I ever want to just feel like I am checking it off of my list. I wouldn’t want anyone to just check me off of their list (I called Fon today, check). Like who wants that? Not me!

During my prayer time and Bible reading this morning, I landed in Jeremiah 5 and it was once again about the people who had turned their backs on God. Y’all this keeps coming up for a reason. Whatever it is that you keep holding on to that’s not of God, it’s time to let it go and fully surrender. Plain and simple. In Jeremiah 5:22, the study notes in my Tony Evans Study Bible says, “to fear the Lord is to take him seriously.” The actual scripture says:

Do you not fear me? This is the Lord’s declaration. Do you not tremble before me, the one who set the sand as the boundary of the sea, an enduring barrier that it cannot cross? The waves surge, but they cannot prevail. They roar but cannot pass over it. Jeremiah 5:22 CSB

Are you taking the Lord serious by fearing Him? Or are you out here in culture singing Never Scared by Bone Crusher and just doing what you want to do in life. Tragedy like the Kobe Bryant accident can often times jolt us in to remember that we ain’t in control of nothing. Big Momma and ole preachers used to sing, get your house order, do it right away. But for whatever reason, we feel it only for a little while and then we go back to doing the opposite of what God commands. But the good news is this: you still have breath in your body (like I said yesterday) to get it right and fully surrender your WHOLE life to God. Not just a few parts either.

So I did two Scriptural Surprises today! The other one was Proverbs 22:19.

I have instructed you today — even you — so that your confidence may be in the Lord. Proverbs 22:19 CSB

But yall already know the best part about this scripture was the Tony Evans Study Bible Study Notes! I won’t give yall the whole thing (go read it yourself if you have the Bible), but essentially he says: Don’t be putting your confidence in people. As a disciple of Jesus Christ you must interact with the Word of God regularly. Scripture equips us to live the Christian life. Our mind, which are constantly bombarded with the world’s unbiblical ideas, need to be renewed so our lives can be transformed. When you try to change your actions without changing your thinking, you only do a temporary, patchwork job. If you want to fix what you do, you must first fix how you think about what you do. A TRANSFORMED MIND comes through the study and application of the Word of God.

Isn’t that a good Word y’all!!!! And it’s like Romans 12:2 has been on replay. Every where I go, I keep hearing it being referenced. It was even referenced in the scriptural surprise in Proverbs! That means it is super important if you keep seeing or hearing the same thing over and over again.

Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2 CSB

When God has all of us, and when the world has none of us, God does the work of renewing our confused minds. He brings our thoughts in line with his own so that we think God’s thoughts after him. God has a goal in this. Renewal allows him to merge his thoughts with ours so that he can bring his plans into our lives. He calls it the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God. God has a purpose and a plan for each of our lives—one that finds us when we are fully surrendered. ~ Tony Evans Study Notes for Romans 12:2

We each have a choice. We can either keep living life how WE want to live it, or choose God’s way. Jeremiah 5:31 asks this question: But what will you do at the end of it? If you keep living how you want to live, what will the end look like for you?

Today is a great day to surrender everything over to God. Stop trying to figure it out yourself and just let Him have full reign and control. Every day, I choose to God’s way. I pray you do too!
