Obeying God Ain't Hard! Fon Strong James

Welpt, this morning, I have to be honest. I lingered in the bed a little longer and now I have asked the Holy Spirit to help me push this blog and podcast out by the deadline. I immediately heard Him say, you know you’re rushing now because you lingered right? I said yes Lord I know. Will you help me get it out. I think I heard him laugh because I laughed. I logged into the computer and it was moving so slow. I was like…it’s okay Fon, you and the Holy Spirit are gonna get this conversation out because…obeying God ain’t hard!

This morning the Holy Spirit said: Continue to get to know who I really am for yourself.

I read Ezekiel, chapter 47 for the Scriptural Surprise and on the adjacent page in my Bible was a pull out story with the header “God Holds the Victory” and I know that I have mentioned this story here before, but I want to share what really stood out to me today…when it stands out, that’s the Holy Spirit highlighting it to me with a spiritual highlighter.

  • Satan is a puppet on God’s string. Even on his best day, he is helping achieve the program of God. Don’t ever forget that!

  • Romans 8:28: All things are working together for the good of those WHO LOVE GOD, who are called according to his purpose.

My first thought was this COVID-19. Even with all the evil that is spawning from this virus, God holds the victory! Then as I read Romans 8:28, a verse that I am very familiar with, I saw something new. We often use this verse when things are going crazy in our life or when we don’t understand situations and circumstances, but the part that stood out is that things will only work together for the good of those WHO LOVE GOD. Okay, so you’re probably like, cool cool, I’m covered, but then I heard the Holy Spirit say to me: People say they love me, but they don’t obey me!!! Singer Mary Mary got a song that says: I luh (love) God, you don’t love God? What’s wrong with you?

This really made me think about the scripture and I have to be honest, I didn’t know all the scripture, just a partial, so I googled it. But it’s John 14:15. If you love me, you will keep my commandments. Okay so in order for all things to work together for my good, I have to love God, right? And then the Word of God says, if you love me, you will keep my commandments. That means obey his commandments.

Obey = Trust

Obedience means to hear God’s word and act accordingly.

Biblical obedience to God means to hear, trust, submit, and surrender to God and His Word.

Obedience is an act of worship, according to Romans 12:1 NLT.

God blesses obedience, according to Luke 11:28 NLT and James 1:22-25

Obedience to God proves our love. Obedience to God demonstrates our faith.

When Jesus came to earth his perfect obedience restored fellowship with God for everyone who believes in Him. The more we read God’s word, spend time with Him, and allow the Holy Spirit to change us from within, the more we grow in obedience and holiness as born-again Christians. And check this out…we don’t learn obedience overnight. It’s a life long process that we pursue by making it a daily goal.

I recently got asked a question by a friend about my vegan journey and how I stopped eating meat. What’s funny is that I said, you know what, I just choose daily to not eat meat. I COULD eat chicken today if I wanted to. I mean I have had a taste for some fried chicken recently, but I CHOOSE not to. That’s the same way with obedience. Every day, we choose to obey God. When we allow the Holy Spirit to transform us from within, we grow in holiness.

Finally I want to share this verse:

In fact, here is what it means to love God. We love him by obeying his commands. And his commands are not hard to obey. 1 John 5:3

Did y’all hear that? His commands are NOT HARD TO OBEY. The devil lies and tells us that it’s too hard to push away from the table and fast. It’s too hard to be pure in a relationship. It’s too hard not to take the edge off with something to drink. It’s too hard to do whatever the Lord is saying do, but today I say we tell the devil and all his demons to shut up. Shut their lying selves up right now in the name of Jesus. I cast out every demon, in the mighty name of Jesus, that has ever suggested to you in thought or used a person to say to you that you can’t DO WHAT GOD SAYS. You can and we will stand on Philippians 4:13: I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST WHO STRENGTHENETH ME!

Obeying God Ain’t Hard…but you don’t have to believe me. Go read it for yourself. It’s right there in his Word that it ain’t hard!

P.S. Be sure to press play above & listen to each episode as I always go deeper on the audio version.
