This morning the Holy Spirit reminded me that getting rest is actually okay. Sometimes I have a hard time just letting my body and mind rest. But the Holy Spirit said this morning, it’s important for you to get enough rest, but it’s also important for you to prepare.
Are you like that too? Do you have a hard time sitting down to rest or laying down to rest? I know this week has caught up with me because I have been going to bed late every night and my body can’t function at 100% when I am over-tired. But for whatever reason, I will still try to push it, verses push myself to the bed. But one thing I do know is that where God is taking me requires me to prepare properly and rest properly. Where I am going will require me to be READY, and the only way to be ready is to prepare and to rest.
When I was reading the story in Luke 23 yesterday about Jesus going to the cross and his burial, their were some women who had come with Joseph from Galilee to the tomb. It says in Luke 23, verse 55 and 56 that the women observed the tomb and how Jesus’ body was placed. Then they returned and prepared spices and perfumes. These spices and perfumes would be to anoint Jesus body. They were doing what they thought they should be doing. And it says the women rested on the Sabbath.
Now on the next day, very early in the morning, they went back to the tomb with the spices they had prepared, but they saw that the stone that had been placed over the tomb had been rolled away. They went in the tomb but did not see Jesus. The Bible says they were perplexed but suddenly two men (who were actually angels) appeared to them and said, “why are you looking for the living among the dead?
He is not here, but he has risen!
Then the angels reminded the women of what Jesus has told them in Galilee about it being necessary for the Son of Man to be betrayed into the hands of sinful men, be crucified, and rise on the third day. The women remembered his words.
What I love about the Tony Evans Study Notes is that it says it was the women who played a prominent role in Jesus’ ministry, supporting him from their own possessions (that means they had their own means for making money). And the women were the first to learn of the resurrection and they were the first to communicate it.
What I learned from these important women who supported Jesus is to:
Observe
Prepare
Rest
Get up early
Go and do what you know to do.
Remember the Words of the Lord.
Run and be the first to tell the Good News!
Yesterday when I read the story, I ended with the burial of Jesus and I told you that was NOT the end of the story. Because on the third day, JESUS rose from the dead!!
When I was a kid, we used to sing a song in Youth Choir that went like this:
He rose, he rose, he rose from the dead! He rose, he rose, he rose from the dead! He rose, he rose, he rose from the dead, and the Lord will bear my spirit home.
There were definitely more verses, but I am so thankful that I had the church upbringing that I had as a kid because it surely laid a lasting foundation for me, especially for Easter. I remember eating more eggs than ever. I think there is even a picture of me with a whole egg in my jaw, with my cute Easter dress on. LOL! And this was back in the day when we dyed real eggs, not the plastic eggs with candy in them. We were getting protein for Easter back in the day. LOL!
Even in quarantine, we will still celebrate Resurrection Sunday on tomorrow, like never before! I am so thankful that my Lord and Savior defeated death, hell, and the grave! HE GOT UP!! HE GOT UP! HE GOT UP! And as the old church pastors would say…with all power in His hands!
