Welcome to the OABG Daily Blog and Podcast!
For whatever reason this morning, I did a song mash up in my head. I wish I was skilled enough to do the mash up so that you could hear it, but the two songs sort of represent the old me and the new me. I looked up lyrics to both songs and I noticed that the secular song’s title was a question. The lyrics were laced with confusion and the artists were singing about just being in this lost state for love. One of the lines in the song even said: “I know love has many names.” And I immediately began to think, well that’s where you wrong. God is love. And that’s the name above all names!
The R&B song that I am referring to is “Who Can I Run To” by Xscape. I used to sing this song and even play it while marching in the band in college. I used to be feeling this song too y’all, but what the Holy Spirit said to me this morning as I thought about this song, is that HE COULD FILL THE EMPTY spaces of my life. See the songstress says: Who can I run to, to share this empty space? Who can I run to, when I need love? Who can I run to, to fill this empty space with laughter? Who can I run to, when I need love?
And in 2020, I believe the answer to Xscape’s question is a song by Cody Carnes called, “Run to the Father.” In Cody’s lyrics he sings: I run to the Father, I fall into grace, I’m done with the hiding, no reason to wait. My heart needs a surgeon. My soul needs a friend, so I’ll run to the Father again and again and again and again .
Maaaaaan y’all,I wish I could mash this up! But listen to the podcast as I try. LOL!
Now what else did me and the Holy Spirit talk about this morning? Of course Proverbs 21, our Scriptural Bible Study. And today I just want to point out three things that really stood out to me. They were related to planning, money, and relationship:
The plans of the diligent certainly lead to profit, but anyone who is reckless certainly becomes poor. So basically you’re CERTAIN to be either profitable or poor depending on whether you plan or whether you decide to be reckless. The CEV translation says if you plan and work hard, you will have plenty, but if you hurry to get rich, you will end up poor! Hello Prodigal son story in the Bible. Hello people who hit the lotto and don’t plan. Hello people who get large lump sums of money and don’t plan. If you rush and and RUN to spend, you will end up poor.
Don’t be a nagging and hot-tempered wife or your husband is going to choose to live in a corner of a roof or in a wilderness to be away from you! Y’all, this chapter talks about a nagging wife TWICE! I think that means pay attention. LOL! The cross reference is my favorite verse Proverbs 12:4 which says a wife of noble character is her husband’s crown, but a wife who causes shame is like rottenness in his bones. Bottom line: Don’t be nagging that man! LOL!
Clean living before God and justice with our neighbors mean far more to God than religious performance.
And I can just turn the mic off now! LOL! Proverbs is definitely the book of the Bible that we need to read, study, and most importantly apply to our lives! Be encouraged today. Wives stop nagging that man. And if you’re going do anything in a rush or in haste, let it be RUNNING to the Father!
