Size Really Doesn't Matter! Fon Strong James

Welcome to the OABG Daily Blog and Daily Podcast!

It’s a cool Saturday morning here in Mississippi, the perfect breeze for a front porch coffee time devotional! The more time we spend with God, the more we get to see just how sinful we are, and THANK HIM for sending Jesus Christ to save us!

In today’s Scriptural Bible Study, we are almost to the end with our study of Proverbs 30. Now this chapter was quite odd to me and I am thankful for the Dr. Tony Evans study notes for putting into proper perspective. Because while it seemed out of place to me, Dr. Evans writes that the inclusion of Agur’s words in chapter 30 and King Lemuel word’s in chapter 31, are both an example of the way the Holy Spirit oversaw and super intended the inspiration of Scripture. Agur opens up the chapter calling himself stupid and saying how he hasn’t gained any wisdom. I mean he is really down on himself with his words and start asking all these questions about God. But verse 5 and 6 sets the tone for Agur:

Everything God says is true — and it’s a shield for all who come to him for safety. Don’t change what God has said! He will correct you and show that you are a liar. Proverbs 30:5-6 CEV

Dr. Evans Study Notes for Proverbs 30:5-6 says: God has weighed and examined EVERY WORD of the Bible to get just the ones he wanted. Our job is to believe and obey His Word, not to put our own words on par with his.

A few other study note verses stood out to me in this chapter. Notice I said study notes, because it really took the study notes for me to get understanding in my Bible Study this morning. I thank God for the study notes which I totally believe the Holy Spirit uses to HELP me!

For verses 11-14, it talks about this generation that could easily describe the young people of today (and no, not all young people). The verses say there is a generation that curses its father and does not bless its mother. A generation that is pure in its own eyes, yet is not washed from its filth. They devour the oppressed and the needy. There are a lot of young people today who are selfish and don’t have anybody to teach them the right way to go and they end up in the streets; often times dead or in jail. Dr. Evans writes that kids need fathers who are kingdom-minded men — men who make it a priority to spend time with their children, teach them the ways of the Lord, discipline them with love, and model godliness. I couldn’t agree more!

Finally, the four things on earth that are small yet extremely wise from verses 24-28. These four small things on earth that are wise include: ants; hyraxes, locusts, and a lizard. They show us that size and power doesn’t matter. And the same goes for us too. Our size and power are totally irrelevant because God is immense and can accomplish mind-blowing things through us. All we have to do is Let Him…(hmm sounds familiar to yesterday’s ending).
