You Have The Power!

New Living Translation

WHAT DID GOD SAY TO ME THIS MORNING

This morning I got up and felt a bold power within me. I started praying and I felt my whole body get bolder and bolder. I was praying in the Spirit but I could hear from my tone and feel from my body movements that I was praying very boldly!

If you get to know me on a personal level, one thing you would eventually learn about me (maybe) is that I have sort of this gangsta side to me. When you look at me, you really can’t see it. I don’t wear it like a jacket nor do I even use it often. But there have been times in my life where (even before I was fully surrendered to Jesus) that I would allow this side of me to rise up. Again, it’s a surprise to most because I just don’t “look” like I would buck up to you. And truth be told, I actually wouldn’t. But when it happens, it’s not me. It’s like a super power, or at least that’s how it could be described to a non-believer in Christ. But it’s really more a of super natural power when I use it for Kingdom!

I am telling you all this so that you can know that when you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and personal savior, this power is BOLD and MIGHTY! It’s the power of Jesus! It can heal. It can cast out demons. And I believe that’s exactly what I was doing this morning. I was casting out of spirits of “stubbornest” and being a ‘know-it-all-can’t-nobody-tell-you-nothing’!

I casted out the spirit of stubbornest in the name of JESUS! It had to bow.

I casted out the ‘know-it-all-can’t-nobody-tell-you-nothing’ spirit in the name of JESUS. It had to bow too.

The Holy Spirit showed me how being stubborn can actually be the same as being disobedient. Now I want you to recognize something here. Taking a stand is not the same as being stubborn. When I say stubborn, it means you know what’s right to do, but you are being bull-headed about it and not doing it. You’re being stubborn. You’re not obeying God.

The other thing that came up in that same vein is being a ‘know-it-all-can’t-nobody-tell-you-nothing.’ There’s an element to stubbornest within that. When a person acts this way, it doesn’t allow the Holy Spirit to use them. They become an unusable vessel. Plus the Holy Spirit can’t guide you when you’re like this because you’re not allowing Him in. Again you’re being stubborn. And guess what? Being stubborn is a strategy of the enemy. Being a ‘know-it-all-can’t-nobody-tell-you-nothing’ is a strategy of the enemy. When you have your arms folded and have that snarly look on your face, you’re rejecting peace, love, joy, kindness, faithfulness, patience, gentleness, goodness, and self control. You’re not living in accordance to the Holy Spirit nor displaying His fruits of the Spirit. And that’s just perfectly fine for the enemy’s agenda. But not today! Both of those spirits had to bow to the name of Jesus this morning! To gain victory in spiritual matters, we can’t be stubborn or closed-minded. We must maintain a clear conscience and have control over our thoughts.

"For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." 2 Corinthians 10: 3-5

Here’s what else the Holy Spirit and I talked about this morning as I read the Scriptural Surprise from Luke 8. It was another talk about faith!! In Luke 8:22-25, it tells the story of how Jesus calmed the storm when He and his disciples were on a boat. What I got from reading this familiar passage was, don’t panic when the storms of life come because:

  1. Jesus is with me in the storm.

  2. He will rebuke the wind and the waves.

  3. All will be calm.

  4. But he is still going to ask me and want to know why I panicked because He wants to know where my faith is.

  5. My faith should grow every time I go through a storm.

  6. My faith should kick in a whole lot faster during the next storm than it did from the last storm because that will show faith progression.

The other thing that stood out for me in Luke 8, which I highly encourage you to read for yourself, is that we must be deliberate in our faith like the woman with the issue of blood (verses 43-44). She had been suffering for 12 years with this issue! But she was determined to touch Jesus, even it was just the border of his garment. Some translations say the fringe of his robe, and of course I grew up in a church where they referred to it as the hem of his garment. Look right now at the hem of your clothes. It’s like right on the edge. This woman was deliberate and had enough faith that if she just got her fingertips on Jesus, she would be healed. And she was!! When was the last time you were desperate for Jesus? Where even if you only got 2 minutes of church, it made all the difference in the world for you? When was the last time you had some “Fingertip Faith.” Ironically, our fingertips are bigger than a mustard seed and in Matthew 17:20, Jesus said “if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, move from here to there, and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” If you’re feeling powerless today, be encouraged with fingertip or mustard seed level faith!

I also love how in this same chapter Jesus brought a little girl back to life. But the little girl’s father had been told that the little girl had died while he was out pleading with Jesus to come back to his home and save her. I love what Jesus said to the little girl’s father, Jairus:

Don’t be afraid. Just trust me, and she will be alright.” Luke 8:50 NLT

I really want to just shout right now because that’s what Jesus is saying to us today about our dead situations: Don’t be afraid. Just trust me. It will be alright!
