Continuous Discipline is Key Fon Strong James

Welcome to the OABG Daily Blog and Podcast!

Thank you for joining me for this Saturday’s edition of the blog and podcast. I had a very long night last night and literally had to stand on the word of God concerning one of my children, but God! It’s interesting to me that we are smack dab in the middle of reading about parenting and I am being tested in that area. But again, I stood on the Word. I allowed the Holy Spirit to navigate my steps, but not before the temptation of the old hollering me tried to seep her way out. But in the name of Jesus, it didn’t happen as it could have and I thank God for that!

You know the saying, ain’t nobody mad but the devil? Well he got mad last night because me and my house, me and my family, got closer than ever through prayer and correction of behavior. We just read yesterday and maybe even the days before of how children will be foolish. We know kids gonna be kids. They are going to try us, but y’all when it happens, you still be shocked. Anyway, I am thankful that I didn’t resort to my old way of parenting, but I did it God’s Way and I am so thankful that I know God’s Way enough to apply it to my life. Yesterday’s blog/podcast was entitled: Apply Wisdom Here! Sure enough, I had to APPLY!

I had some very broken up sleep last night, but I am here and I stand on the word of God that I CAN DO all things through Christ who gives me strength today. So let’s get into Chapter 23 of Proverbs for the Scriptural Bible Study and continue to up our wisdom game.

Now yesterday we learned about 6 of the 30 Sayings of Wise People. Today, in chapter 23, we pick up with Sayings 7-19. I am not going to go through all of them. I want to just share the Sayings that really stood out to me today. Sayings 8, 12, 13, 15, and 19. Today I read from the NIRV translation.

Saying 8

Don’t wear yourself out to get rich.
Don’t trust how wise you think you are.
When you take even a quick look at riches, they are gone.
They grow wings and fly away into the sky like an eagle.

Saying 12

12 Apply your heart to what you are taught.
Listen carefully to words of knowledge.

Saying 13

13 Don’t hold back correction from a child.
If you correct them, they won’t die.
14 So correct them.
Then you will save them from death.

Saying 15

17 Do not long for what sinners have.
But always show great respect for the Lord.
18 There really is hope for you in days to come.
So your hope will not be cut off.

Saying 19

29 Who has trouble? Who has sorrow?
    Who argues? Who has problems?
Who has wounds for no reason? Who has red eyes?
30 Those who spend too much time with wine.
Or those who like to taste wine mixed with spices.
31 Don’t look at wine when it is red.
Don’t look at it when it bubbles in the cup.
And don’t look at it when it goes down smoothly.
32 In the end it bites like a snake.
It bites like a poisonous serpent.
33 Your eyes will see strange sights.
Your mind will imagine weird things.
34 You will feel like someone sleeping on the ocean.
You will think you are lying among the ropes in a boat.
35 “They hit me,” you will say. “But I’m not hurt!
They beat me. But I don’t feel it!
When will I wake up
so I can find another drink?”

The Holy Spirit was speaking to me in these 5 sayings out of Proverbs 23 this morning. I know that continuous discipline in reading His Word is key to living a life that is pleasing and holy unto Him. I also know that continuous discipline with my children is key to raising them up the right way. Continuous discipline is key.
