How Much Time Does God Get Out of Your 24?
WHAT DID GOD SAY TO ME THIS MORNING
Ugh! I didn’t wake up at 5! Some days, I get up with no problem. Then other days, I turn the other cheek. That means I turn my other cheek to the cold side of the pillow and tell myself, a few more minutes! Guess what I read this morning when I flipped to Proverbs 24 for the scriptural surprise?
A little extra sleep, a little more slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, and poverty will pounce on you like a bandit; scarcity will attack you like an armed robber. Proverbs 24:33-34. New Living Translation
Yes indeed! I needed this timely reminder! And I am thankful that God is a redeemer of time. I prayed that anything that I was supposed to pray for during the 5 a.m. - 6 a.m. hour that it be covered in this prayer time that I was currently in. But y’all know, I was hard on myself for not getting up. So now my prayer is Lord, help me to get up on time consistently, again. I know I can do it because I’ve done it before. But the key is, I got to get to bed by 10 p.m., no later. So that’s it. God will not only get my time WITH Him in the prayer closet, He will get my time commitment to be in bed by 10 p.m.
As I was praying this morning, I heard myself say out loud: Lord, I pray that people know, that you want to help them with ANYTHING and EVERYTHING! I felt in my spirit that I was interceding for those who feel like they need to “get themselves together first” before they can come to God. That’s a lie from the devil. You don’t have to get nothing together. I mean NOTHING. You can be knocking back alcohol, smoking, or in the middle of a sex, and ask God to help you stop doing it, and for Him to come into your life right now! And for those who already have God in their life, you too can be in the middle of that sin and say, Lord I need you right now to help me stop this for good. And He will!! Trust me…I am a living witness. When I surrendered fully, I didn’t desire anything that wasn’t of Him. Am I still tempted? Of course. The defeated devil still tries, but my prayer life is so deep that he is constantly fleeing!!!
Our Father wants to help us with every single thing we are going through, even the stuff we deem as good. I realized something just now. WE are the ones picking and choosing what we think is a “God-level” situation or not. When it’s bigger than us, then we call upon God. Or when we realize we can’t handle it. But did you know that God is concerned about what concerns us? Even the stuff “we think” we can handle on our own?
We should be getting God’s permission, thoughts, and guidance, on every single detail of our lives. I mean how is it that your authority person at work (your boss, manager, supervisor, etc.) can set up a chain of command for decision-making, and you not have one in your own life with your Creator? You have to get permission at work. So why don’t you think you have to get permission from God? Aren’t we here on earth to do His work? Or have we gotten so caught up in our own agendas?
This morning, as I was reading Proverbs, I was just looking at all the wisdom that is found in these scriptures. I mean it has everything we need. EVERYTHING! Stuff like don’t be saying you’re going to get somebody back! And stuff like, don’t try to avoid responsibility with ignorance, talking about you didn’t know about it. Proverbs 24:12 says God knows all hearts and He sees you (that means you can’t hide yours and I can’t hide mine). He knows that you knew about it and didn’t do nothing about it.
One verse that stood out to me was Proverbs 24:3. I love how it is translated in The Passion Translation Bible: “Wise people are builders~ they build families, businesses, and communities. And through intelligence and insight, their enterprises are established and endure.
In the New Living Translation, Proverbs 24:3 says, A house is built by wisdom and becomes strong through good sense. That got me to thinking about how much planning, time, and effort goes into a building a house. And really, how much planning, time, and effort goes into building ANYTHING. Whether it be a house, a family, a relationship, a business, a career, or even a habit! Habits are things that you build consistently over time. We have good habits and we have bad habits, but both are the same in that they were built over time. How we spend our time determines what is being built in our lives!
What if you replaced building your bad habits with building time with God? What if you replaced your sin time with prayer time? How is it that you always find time to do that “thing” you always do (that habit), but when it comes to prayer time, or time with God and building His kingdom, you say stuff like…I need to just find the time to _____________.(fill in the blank) Or I need to see how I can get more time to _______________. As I said earlier in this blog, you don’t have to even get your schedule together by yourself. NOW IS THE TIME, to ask God for help on how to spend more time with Him!
Here’s a challenge for you. Whatever you always find time to do, replace it with prayer time. That downtime can now be prayer time. That beer after a long day at work can now be prayer time. That decompress with music on the ride home, can now be prayer time. That Netflix time, can now be prayer time. That time you spend on the phone gossiping can now be prayer time. That time you spend talking to the same person every day about the same problems, can now be prayer time. That time you spend on social media can now be prayer time. That time you always spend on __________________(fill in the blank), can now be spent in prayer.
The enemy wants you to think you don’t have time for God. But to be honest, you really don’t have time to NOT spend it with God. The reason you’re still here on earth is because God is giving YOU TIME to realize how you need to spend MORE TIME with him for His purposes for your life!
How much time does God GET back out of the 24 hours He GIVES you?
Spend some time today thinking about it and then take action. Don’t let another 24 hours go by where you don’t get intentional with your time with God.
