What Are You Putting On Today?
Now grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift. Ephesians 4:7 CSB
Today I want to jump right into the Word of God. We are studying Ephesians 4 for our Scriptural Bible Study and here’s what I got from my study time:
Our point of reference should always be the Spirit of God.
God is a God of order.
God gave every believer a spiritual gift. That spiritual ability is to be used in service to God’s people for the expansion of His Kingdom. We aren’t just supposed to attend church. God saved us and equipped us for the work of ministry and the work of service, so that we can build up the body of Christ. This is crucial to our own spiritual development.
When we were saved, we received a new wardrobe, but we have to take off the old clothes to put on the new. You can’t layer your new life on top of your old life. You got to take the old life off completely.
The key to taking off the old you and putting on the new you is to be renewed in the spirit of our minds. Your new lifestyle must be controlled by your renewed mind. To put on the new self requires a new way of thinking which is grounded in biblical truth. We can’t go back to the worldview we had before Christ.
Truth is what God says about a matter.
We can’t be in community unless we admit our faults, failures, and weaknesses to one another.
We must control our anger and not give the devil a crack to slide in and make things we are angry about bigger than what they really ware. Anger is sinful when it attacks people and seeks revenge.
We are to be kind and compassionate to each other and forgive others as Christ forgave us. And we must do it for real for real. Don’t fake forgive because Christ didn’t fake forgive you.
Don’t grieve the Holy Spirit. The New Living Translation makes it plain: And do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember he has identified you as his own, guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption.
In summary, we are to be unified in the church. We are to put on our new wardrobe/new mindset and ditch the old worldly way we used to think about life. We as believers all were given a spiritual gift. We are to use our spiritual gifts to advance the Kingdom of God. The Spirit’s joy, presence, and power will not be ours if we make Him sad when we open our mouths with bitterness, anger, wrath, shouting, slander, and malice. We are to be kind, compassionate and forgiving.
Ephesians 4:23-24 says: to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, the one created according to God's likeness in righteousness and purity of the truth.
What are you putting on today? I pray it’s the new you!
SALVATION PRAYER
If you don’t know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior and you’re not a believer, but you have a desire to be, all you have to do is openly confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead (Romans 10:9). When you pray that prayer, you are saved. Get connected with a good, bible-based church in your community, stay connected to other believers, and start having daily conversations through prayer with God every single day. Welcome to your new life with Jesus Christ!!!
