This is the day the Lord has made, I WILL rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24 (Yes again!)
This morning I woke up to another reminder of why it is so important to pray. My son came into the room and woke me up because he had a bad dream. I gave him a hug, told him it wasn’t real, and then we went back to his room. I laid hands on his head and prayed for him and then we turned his TV to a YouTube channel that played scriptures, all themed around God will fight your battles. As I stayed in the room for while and even laid down in his bottom bunk, while he tried to go back to sleep on the top bunk, I realized that the scripture which instructs us to, pray without ceasing, is more purposeful that we think. The scripture right before that one says, Rejoice always.
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. ~ 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 ESV
It wasn’t long after I crawled into the bottom bunk of my son’s bed that I heard praise and worship music coming from my room. I had not realized what time it was when he came to my room. I thought it was still very much night time, but it wasn’t. I had said yesterday that I wanted to start back getting up earlier and guess what? What the enemy meant for evil, God worked out for my good. I headed to the prayer closet and had this conversation with the Lord.
Follow up and follow through.
That was all I heard from the Holy Spirit this morning. My mind started racing about different things and different people. But that was all I heard. I flipped open by Bible and landed in Proverbs 14. The very first verse says: A wise woman builds her home, but a foolish woman tears it down with her own hands.
When I looked that verse up in different translations, it went right along with the very actions I had to take this morning by praying with my son. Check out these three translations for Proverbs 14:1:
The wise woman builds her house [on a foundation of godly precepts, and her household thrives], But the foolish one [who lacks spiritual insight] tears it down with her own hands [by ignoring godly principles]. ~Proverbs 14:1 AMP
Every wise woman encourages and builds up her family, but a foolish woman over time will tear it down by her own actions. ~ Proverbs 14:1 TPT
A woman’s family is held together by her wisdom, but it can be destroyed by her foolishness. ~ Proverbs 14:1 CEV
Y’all know I had to look up the word foolish because while I think I know, I like to make sure I get it on another level, a KJV Dictionary Definition kind of level. Because culture has desensitized us to the word so much that we call each other fools in a joking way or even in a very demeaning way. But let’s see what it says from a scriptural context. Foolish means void of understanding or sound judgment; weak in intellect; unwise; acting without judgment; silly; vain; trifling; ridiculous, despicable; wicked, sinful; acting without regard to the divine law and glory, or to one’s own eternal happiness. I also read another definition that says foolish would mean that the person does not fear or respect God.
Well now we definitely know, right! Let us be encouraged to be wise and not foolish women (and men).
There was another verse that popped into my mind as it was racing around during prayer this morning. I think the enemy was really trying to distract me with various things and as things popped up, I just prayed for it. And as I was praying to not be so distracted, I thought about Philippians 4:8:
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Philippians 4:8 NIV
This is how you get your mind stayed on Jesus because He is all that AND MORE!
Okay, now let’s get into our Scriptural Bible Study. We are on chapter 7 today of Acts and these are the verses that stood out to me. But let me say this, Acts chapter 7 was chocked full. Stephen was giving a real run down sermon wasn’t he?
The verses that stood out for me were:
Acts 7:2-5. Through the reading of the Word and the study notes, I wrote down: God wants relationship not religion. Abraham’s relationship with God was key.
Acts 7:48 says: But the Most High does not dwell in sanctuaries made with hands, as the prophet says. I wrote down, don’t be more devoted to a church building, but lose sight of the God to who the church points to.
Acts 7:51. For this verse, I wrote down don’t be stubborn or miss the Holy Spirit. Don’t be unwilling to respond. Don’t be obstinate to what God says through His Word and by His Spirit. Obstinate means stubborn, refusing to change one’s opinion or chosen course of action.
Today’s conversation with the Holy Spirit was filled with instruction, wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. Right before I finished my prayer time, I heard the Holy Spirit say: what you say, should line up with what you do.
As I look back over today’s time with God, all of this can be summed up with don’t be no stubborn fool when it comes to the Word of God. Be obedient and do what God says do when He says do it. Follow through on God’s instructions.
