You Can Make Plans, But God Still Decides Them
MY CONVERSATIONS WITH GOD
Welcome to the OABG Daily Blog and Podcast!
Have you ever made all the plans in the world, but then things went totally different than you planned? I mean we can all think of times where we planned something and it didn’t go as planned. You know why? Proverbs 16 tells us why! Let’s jump into so that we can hear from God exactly why we can make all the plans we want, but He still determines our steps!
Before we talk about the Scriptural Bible Study, I want to share what the Lord told me this morning as I was sorta kinda in my feels. I woke up feeling a bit anxious about my future. Of course I prayed about it and then I tried to find relief in reliving words that I had heard. I tried to find peace in words I had heard from others. But God had to remind me that I can’t expect other people to always recognize the value He placed in me. I can’t let man’s words give me peace. He said I am so valuable to Him and no one can fulfill my desires like He can. I am His masterpiece. Only His words can fulfill me and have that lasting impact on me.
As I sat there, I felt like I wanted to cry a bit. I said Lord, help me not to be anxious about my future or regretful about my past mistakes that got me where I am now. And while I was in my feels, I read Proverbs chapter 16 and the Holy Spirit gave me peace through a few of the verses that stood out to me. Even the Hope Words from my Tony Evans Study Bible that were neatly placed in between the scriptures, gave me HOPE: God has your tomorrow covered, even though you haven’t been there yet. He’s got the plan.
Between the Hope Words and these scriptures I read, I realized that I needed to press into trusting God more this morning. The feelings I had were the pre-cursor to doubting that my situation could change in an instant. God wanted me to know, yeah you can make plans Fon, but I determine how all of it goes. And the thing is, I do trust God with all of it, but I know the enemy wants to seed doubt in my mind by reliving words I heard or more-so words I haven’t heard. He wants me to doubt that God knows the plans He has for me, plans to give me hope and and a future (Jeremiah 29:11 kind of plan). But in reading the Word this morning, the wisdom in Proverbs 16 won out. I was in the right position to hear from God. Here’s the wisdom that I got from Proverbs Chapter 16:
When I commit my activities (all of them) to the Lord, He will make everything I do succeed.
Being loyal, faithful, turning from evil and the fear of the Lord is atonement for sin.
I can plan all I want, but the Lord STILL decides where my steps will take me. He has prepared everything for His purpose.
Wisdom is better than gold. Understanding is better than silver.
Arrogance and pride will destroy me.
If I pay attention to what I have been taught in God’s Word, I will succeed.
I am blessed when I trust in the Lord.
We make our own decisions but the Lord alone determines what happens.
After reading and studying Proverbs 16, and pressing my feet more into the solid words written in Jeremiah 29:11, I have peace about my future. God knows the plans, and I am secure in that knowing.
