Dependence IS Obedience

Listen to the podcast version of this blog.

This morning the Holy Spirit reminded me to relax and not put the weight of any assignment that He has given me on my shoulders. I am to depend on Him no matter how many times I have done it already; no matter how “experienced” I am. Dependence is obedience. Depending on God is obeying God.

When I read the 17th Chapter of Deuteronomy for the Scriptural Bible Study, the 18th and 19th verses stood out. As you know, I journal. I take notes. I write down things because somebody told me that writing things down will help me remember them more. But also writing them down documents that I read it or heard it. It makes it official because it is written. Look at what those two verses say:

“And when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, he shall write for himself in a book a copy of this law, approved by the Levitical priests. 19 And it shall be with him, and he shall read in it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the Lord his God by keeping all the words of this law and these statutes, and doing them. Deuteronomy 17:18-19 ESV

I got three things from those two verses that we are to do when we receive assignments or instructions from the Lord, and stressing about it isn’t one of them. Now these verses in the text were referencing when a king is appointed, these are the things he is to do. But I believe these were highlighted to me (and now you) for a purpose: We are to:

  1. Write down the instructions from God. (WRITE)

  2. Read over those instructions daily. (READ)

  3. Do what the instructions say do (OBEY)

When we do these three things along with depending on God, we can be assured that we are in right standing with Him. We don’t have to worry about anything. Plus God gives to us what He already knows we can do.

Be encouraged by that today. When we depend on God and trust Him, we are being obedient to His word. He never meant for us to do anything that He instructs us to do without Him. Depending on God IS obeying God.

SALVATION PRAYER

If you don’t know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior and you’re not a believer, but you have a desire to be, all you have to do is openly confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead (Romans 10:9). When you pray that prayer, you are saved. Get connected with a good, bible-based church in your community, stay connected to other believers, and start having daily conversations through prayer with God every single day. Welcome to your new life with Jesus Christ!!!
