Worship!
That’s the word that I had on my heart as I entered the prayer closet this morning. So I did just that. And it was so on my heart to do, I went straight to some worship music. Two songs crooned from my phone: Psalm 23 and So Will I.
I just worshipped. As I was listening and worshipping, I WAS ENCOURAGED! Now here I am worshipping God, and He is faithful to encourage me as I worship HIM! Woo!!! One of the verses in the song, So Will I, really caught my attention. It says: If creation still obeys you, SO WILL I. Just think about that. Creation is STILL OBEYING GOD…the stars are still suspended in the sky in obedience to a Word spoken by God!!!
I was flipping to find a cross referenced verse in the book of Revelation, from my Scriptural Bible Study reading of Acts, and guess what? I landed on the definitions in the back of my Bible. Can you guess what word I landed exactly on? WORSHIP! It said: Worship is reserved only for God. Worship glorifies God and we should always be worshipping. Our lives should be an act of worship. We are to worship in public and in private. My question for you this morning before we jump into the bible study is…when was the last time you worshipped God?
Now y’all know I was always joke about singing in all keys here on the blog/podcast, but worship is not about singing good, it is about singing to GOD! Did you catch that? It is not about you at all. It is about Him. I think about when we were all physically going to church before the pandemic changed our church locations. And often times you would hear the worship leader having to prod the audience by saying…come on, give the Lord praise. Let’s worship Him. Give God your best praise. Worship. Worship. Worship. It was like we had to be told to worship. Was that you? I know it was me sometimes. I actually used to focus too much on the music or the song verses the one we were singing about…our God! Musical instruments only should aid in the worship, but our voice should be the first instrument and it matters not whether we are in tune.
Speaking of Worship…I start studying the 13th chapter of Acts and guess what word pops up in the 2nd verse?
As they were worshipping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” Acts 13:2
Here in the 13th chapter of Acts, everybody was getting ready for the mission field. To prepare, they worshipped, fasted, prayed, and laid hands on the people who were going out into the mission field. And it was while they were worshipping and fasting that the Holy Spirit spoke. It got me to wondering. Could it be that we can’t hear the Holy Spirit speaking to us because we haven’t been worshipping, fasting, or praying? We’ve been worrying, filling our stomachs with food, and pondering what to do next during this pandemic. How about today we start fresh. How about in this new month, on this first Monday, we change it up. Let’s worship, fast, pray, and lay hands!
Some other verses that stood out to me in my study of this 13th chapter of Acts were:
Acts 13:9 Saul’s name was changed to Paul.
Acts 13:34-37 God expects each of us to fulfill our Kingdom purpose during our lifetime. And that purpose will always involve influencing the lives of people for both time and eternity.
Acts 13: 38-39 - Only the gospel of Jesus Christ can justify us and make us right before God.
Acts 13:49-50 - God’s Word can’t be stopped, no matter how much unbelievers try to silence Jesus’s followers.
Acts 13:51-52 - Even though Paul and Barnabas were being persecuted, they shook the dust off their feet against them and continued on preaching and teaching. The disciples were filled with JOY and the HOLY SPIRIT.
Acts 13:52 - When the Holy Spirit is doing His work within you, you will experience internal peace and joy, regardless of your external circumstances.
Today, let us be encouraged to prepare for the mission through worship, fasting, praying, and the laying of hands (which is the official recognition of the Spirit’s ministry call and endorsement), so that we can do the purpose for which God created us. Everything else that God created is still obeying…SO WILL WE!
P.S. Be sure to press play above & listen to each episode as I always go deeper on the audio version.
