WHAT DID GOD SAY TO ME THIS MORNING

This morning’s get-up was not a hard one and maybe it’s because my heart for this blog assignment is willing.

Yesterday, my family and I, laid my uncle to rest with a beautiful send off and celebration of his life. Being around a family like mine makes you appreciate unity and closeness. We are such a close family and I am so thankful God put me in the family that I am in.

A word that the Holy Spirit brought into my remembrance this morning was willingness. I heard it echoed yesterday at the funeral a lot about my Uncle in how willing he was so serve. And it made me so happy to hear how solid my Uncle was in his willingness to serve, no matter where he was.

This morning, I looked up the word willingness. The definition of willingness is, the quality or state of being prepared to do something; readiness.

In my journal I wrote down:

A willingness to be obedient.
A willingness to serve.
A willingness to pray.
A willingness to study God’s word.

When you take the word willingness and replace it with the definition of that word, it gives more of an instructional tone. Watch what happens when I change the word willingness out and use the definition:

A readiness to be obedient or being prepared to be obedient
A readiness to serve or being prepared to serve
A readiness to pray or being prepared to pray
A readiness to study God’s word or being prepared to study God’s word

The Holy Spirit said to me: Being willing to obey is the first step, but obeying is actually taking the first step with your movement. Actually obeying is really what you want to be even more willing to do!

When I opened my Bible for the Scriptural Surprise this morning, I flipped to the longest book of the Bible!! Psalm 119! But guess what? I had a willingness to want to spend more time in the Word, so reading all those verses out loud blessed me, and showed me how reading the Word of God prepares me to be obedient, serve, and pray, with a readiness of God’s word on my lips!

I love how Dr. Tony Evans put it when I read the study notes (in my Tony Evans Study Bible…lol) about Psalm 119. He says: The entire 119 psalm is an appreciation for, celebration of, and dependency on the Word of God to enable us to properly negotiate the twists and turns of life.

What are you willing to do? What are some areas in your life where you need to make some shifts in your ability to be willing?

Be encouraged today to be willing to do whatever God has purposed you here on earth to do. And the only way to discover that purpose…is being willing to read the Word of God, pray, and write down what you hear Him say to you. Be willing to have a conversation with God daily.
